Where can I go and who will listen? We want to help you make informed decisions about shelters, treatment and the best path to getting off of the street.
- Don’t sleep outside. Make every effort to stay within a shelter. Sleeping outside is dangerous. It’s only a matter of time until you get hurt. The rules are tough, but there are rules everywhere in life. You choose the rules (and safety, food and security) of the shelter or the rules of the streets.
- Don’t loose you ID. You need valid state ID in order to stay in most shelters and to get a job. If you loose it, prioritize getting it back.
- Consider lightening your load. You need to minimize what you carry so that you can easily transition off of the streets. Examine every relationship in your life. Who helps or hurts your progress? Only keep the stuff and relationships that will help you succeed.
- Recognize God’s plan. You’ve tried things your way and where has that led? You need to recognize that God has not forgotten you nor has He ignored you. God is waiting for you to pursue Him. This is not a guarantee off of the streets, but a chance to experience the abundant life that only comes from Jesus.
