Jobs

Getting a job is not as difficult as it sounds. But there is a list of steps that you must complete (in order!). To get a job you need patience, prayer, an ID, Contact information, a resume, a job search, and to apply.

  1. You need to be patient. We hear every day about people who have been without a job for multiple years and we know that it is very difficult. Many people are without jobs and you are not alone in the search. But we also hear about people finding work every day. Only those people who dedicate their time to looking for a job will actually find one. It all begins here. You are at the right place!
  2. You need to pray. God is the only source of hope in life and without His help, you may be looking in vain. Pray and ask for God to lead you in the right directions, then get involved in the search process.
  3. You must have a valid ID to get a job. You may have been able to get a job in the past without an ID, but things have changed. If you need an ID, you can visit the Stewpot or try to get one on your own. The State of Texas has different processes for applying for a State ID or a drivers license.
  4. You need some way for a potential employer to contact you. The simplest form of contact is email. If you do not have an email account, you can sign up for a free account though GMAIL. Beyond email, you may want to consider a phone number. If you do not have access to a phone, you should get a free phone number through Google Voice. You will never hear it ring, but you will have a voice-mail account where you can receive messages. (for Free!) These voice mails will be forwarded to your email address. If you want to consider a phone, choose a cost effective option like Net10 (10 cents per minute). These phone can be purchased at Wal-Mart for around $10.
  5. You must have an updated resume. It should be limited to one or two pages with your work history, experience, special skills and contact information. You can create your resume online through Google Docs.
  6. You must search for a job. More jobs are posted on Craigslist.org – than anywhere else. This is the job listing for Dallas. There is also a listing by the Stewpot Job hotline 214-431-4163, DARS, and the Texas Workforce Commission.
  7. You must apply. Jobs will not hire you, if you do not apply! You must complete the application and answer every answer correctly. Be honest if they ask about your criminal record. Some companies will hire you with a felony. All companies will fire you if you lie!
  8. You must pray. Continue to seek God’s help for your job search.
  9. Repeat steps 6-8 until you find a job. If you are serious about getting a job, you must continue to look and apply yourself.
